Cancel Cable – Dump Cable TV
Typical American households pay way too much for cable TV service! The average American household spends about $60-$65 a month on cable satellite tv! That is $780 a year! Wait, what about that “extra” cable box for your other TVs, TIVO? HBO? Tack it on baby!
Listen to this! I heard that 1 in 4 U.S. households are now using the internet as a substitute for TV! Hulu, Netflix, Apple TV have arrived. THIS IS AWESOME!! You can stream and watch most any TV show and plenty of movies in hd from online sources these days.

Did you know that YouTube (owned by Google) has deals in the works to start delivering FREE and paid TV delivery services?
In my house, we have lived on the most basic package for years and have saved WAY big. In fact, if it were up to me and me only we would dump cable TV all together!! Someday I will get my wish .<wicked smile>

Some people don’t know it but if you have a high definition TV (HDTV) you may have access to a lot of over the air channels! Back when the TV stations changed to High Definition from analog they were granted up to FIVE FEEDS! What does that mean? Well, YOU may have access to multiple ABC, CBS, NBC channels FOR FREE!! over the digital signal, too cool, right?

I recommend more people do that..I shut it off when we were down to one income. When I started working, we decided to not turn it back on.

We dumped our cable after we had about 2 months of a (REALLY GOOD) Mexican tele-novela (soap opera) backlogged & saved on our DVR. My wife was watching it over time as a method of learning spanish (while she did cardio).
One day, our DVR stopped working and we called the cable company. they said, they’d just swap it out and give us a new DVR box. We asked if they could try & fix it so we could get all those shows back. NOPE!
so we hoped that it would magically start working and after 3 months of just sitting on the box, we realized we:
A) didn’t miss cable
B) got more done
C) were spending more quality family time together
so we just dumped cable all together. other than high-speed cable internet. but that’s only $40/mo. and worth it.
Great job on your blog, Jan!
